ORIGINAL DIXIE SONGBOOK - TIGER DIXIE BAND

The Tiger Dixie Band revisits the roots of jazz, moving between New Orleans ensemble playing, ragtime and early swing. Trumpet, clarinet, trombone and saxophones trade lines above a flexible rhythm section, with spontaneous counterpoint and an understated sense of humour.

Jazz at its beginnings

Music associated with the Original Dixieland Jass Band, Bennie Moten and Bix Beiderbecke appears alongside standards such as Maple Leaf Rag, Bill Bailey and When the Saints Go Marching In. The group offers a present-day reading of the collective language of early jazz.

The music

Conversation between the horns drives the performance: melodies move between the instruments, while the arrangements allow collective improvisation to flourish. Bill Bailey also contains playful allusions to Stormy Weather and La Vie en Rose.
