Music, editions and recording details
On Sketches of Spain, Miles Davis and arranger Gil Evans bring orchestral jazz into dialogue with Spanish musical traditions. Davis's trumpet moves through Evans's richly coloured writing, from Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez to pieces rooted in Iberian themes.
Trumpet and orchestra
Alongside the Adagio from Rodrigo's concerto, the programme includes Manuel de Falla's Will o' the Wisp, The Pan Piper, Saeta and Solea. Originally released in 1960, the album appears here with its five original LP tracks, without later CD bonus material.
