Music, editions and recording details

Instants captures a meeting of jazz improvisation and contemporary composition in the remarkable setting of the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. Drummer and composer Roberto Dani leads an unusual acoustic quartet with Louis Sclavis on clarinets, Vincent Courtois on cello and Kyle Gregory on trumpet and flugelhorn. Four extended pieces move between written material and spontaneous invention, with an emphasis on acoustic colour and ensemble interaction.
