When I proposed the idea for this album to Oscar del Barba and Stefano Bortolussi, I knew I was dealing, on the one hand, with a composer of rare refinement and creativity, and on the other with a poet for whom the musicality of verse is an essential element. I knew, in short, that in them I would have two companions on this adventure, perfectly in tune with what I had in mind: something new and, at the same time, a return to the origins. Stefano and I collected, in addition to three of his original contributions in English, the texts of some of the finest Italian poets and writers of recent years, for whom I wanted to act as a sort of muse, asking them to develop verses on the major themes of love, desire, distance, and memory, and contributing my own insights, variations, and suggestions.
We shaped and refined the words entrusted to us, which feature images I'm very fond of, such as water and travel. We then entrusted the lyrics to Oscar's expert hands, who set them to music and orchestrated them for string quartet, crafting the notes into the verses with skill and profound inspiration.
But above all, I experimented, sang, and performed, following a vision of a song that broke away from and transcended convention; and Stefano and Oscar listened and offered open-minded suggestions. The result, we are convinced, is, for once, faithful to the original intent: to reconnect song and poetry, which today are too often sacrificed on the false altars of easy rhymes and catchiness.

The ideal travelling companion is the Echos Quartet, a young group full of enthusiasm, talent and passion and curious about crossover projects.
Marco Lincetto's great mastery behind the control desk and his invaluable contribution as a record producer are always a guarantee.
This, then, is our idea of free singing. Or perhaps it would be better to say "one of our ideas," since I have a feeling many more will follow.
