MINGUS WORLD - Maria Vicentini Salvatore Maiore

Mingus World is a tribute to the music of Charles Mingus performed by an unusual string duo: Maria Vicentini on violin and viola and Salvatore Maiore on cello and double bass. Nine compositions are reimagined through counterpoint, improvisation and dialogue, preserving the spirit of Mingus's music while drawing out its chamber-music possibilities. From Fables of Faubus and Goodbye Pork Pie Hat to O.P. and Better Get Hit in Your Soul, the result is an intimate, inventive approach to his repertoire.

Recording and mastering

Originally recorded live in studio on 30 November 2019 at San Giacomo Spazio d'Arte, Albignasego, Italy, at 88.2 kHz / 24 bit. Marco Lincetto chose a three-microphone Decca Tree setup using Ribera R12 valve microphones. Released in 2020.
