KYRA - PIETRO BALLESTRERO ENSEMBLE, MIRABASSI

On Kyra, guitarist and composer Pietro Ballestrero brings his writing into dialogue with Gabriele Mirabassi's clarinet, double bass and a string quartet. The eleven tracks, including an alternative take of Abbraccio forte, move between jazz improvisation, chamber music and a close attention to instrumental colour. In the original notes, Ballestrero describes the compositions as stories connected with feelings, people and memories; Upi, Verde, Vos and Cerchio are examples of this narrative approach. Guitar, clarinet and strings interact without a fixed separation between soloist and accompaniment.

Recording and mastering

Original 88.2 kHz / 24-bit live-in-studio recording at Velut Luna Studios, Preganziol, near Treviso, Italy, in April 2012. Recording, mixing and mastering were completed at the same studio. The ensemble was captured during a collective performance.
