JAZZ - 30° ANNIVERSARY

JAZZ – 30th Anniversary brings together nine recordings selected from the Velut Luna catalogue to mark the label's first thirty years. From the Royal Big Band to performances featuring Lucia Minetti, Paolo Fresu, Giorgio Gaslini and Gabriele Mirabassi, the sequence spans different periods and ensembles, from swing traditions to improvisation and timbral exploration. The collection is dedicated to Gaslini, heard both on the live Alabama Blues and on the closing Millacamilla.

Musicians and repertoire

Individual performing credits appear beside each track because this compilation includes different ensembles. The selections span recordings made between 1997 and 2017.

Recording and mastering

The tracks come from different sessions, places and years; Alabama Blues is documented as a live recording from March 2003. A ¼-inch analogue tape master was produced at VLS Studio, Náquera, Spain, for the anniversary edition from original analogue and digital sources, the latter recorded in native high-resolution PCM. No single recording date applies to the full compilation.

A note on the prepared piano

On the closing Millacamilla, Giorgio Gaslini plays a prepared piano. The percussive sound created by placing paper between the hammers and strings is part of the performance, not a fault in the recording.
